What Does Twinkles Do?
Most people struggle in life, be it men or women, old or young. But the struggle of mothers living in poverty, raising young children on their own because they’re widows, divorced, or separated—typically due to physical and mental abuse, is gruesome. They’re illtreated and forced to flee for their own and their child’s safety because they are blamed for raising children alone even though the cause may be out of their control.
They don’t qualify for bank loans, don’t have the ability to apply for aid such as grants, or gain sustained employment. Some who do find employment, may face violence, severe discrimination, and help that comes with strings attached, leaving them a heartbeat away from being forced to be on the streets or worse, into human trafficking. Even when they live in households, they may have no control over their future as they are not consulted in decisions that affect them. They have usually not been recipients of a proper education but may have been pushed into who to marry, when to marry—way too young and without reproductive healthcare.
Because severe abuse would have driven out of them the motivation to get up, dust themselves off, and fight, despair may have set in, leaving them with no self-worth. Hope, then is of foremost importance for them to turn their life around. They must believe that somebody with no ulterior motives will help them fight for their dignity and the future of their children. And that is Twinkles, a New Jersey, USA, Non-Profit.
Most need financial assistance in some form. Twinkles provides that with the goal always to ‘not give them a fish but teach them how to fish’. Only then can they cultivate the self-confidence which in turn will put them on the path of what they desire deep inside and is the objective of Twinkles—to lead a life of self-respect and dignity. Twinkles can help them not be dependent on handouts, make an honest living on their own, gain self-respect, and raise children with pride who go on to become contributing citizens.
